Wadden Sea House

Wadden Sea Houses are called nature conservation and education centers on the subject of the Wadden Sea . In particular, this includes the houses of the Wadden Sea Protection Station in Schleswig-Holstein and the Wadden Sea Visitor Center in Wilhelmshaven .

The three seminar houses on Hallig Hooge , Langeneß and Westerhever are located in the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park and in the Halligen biosphere reserve . All Wadden Sea houses are certified as educational institutions under the UN Decade for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).

The houses are operated and responsible for the regional station of the Wadden Sea Protection Station. The booking for groups is made centrally from the office in Husum .

In the houses there are exhibitions and extensive educational material on the Wadden Sea , which is freely accessible to all visitors. The groups in the houses are offered natural history excursions, lectures, presentations and other environmental education offers.

In Wilhelmshaven , where the national park administration is also located, the Wadden Sea House has existed since 1992 as an education and information center with a 2000 m² exhibition. Since 2009 it has officially been named UNESCO World Heritage Wadden Sea Visitor Center . There is also a skeleton of a sperm whale with some plastinated organs. There is also a storm experience room, an aquarium and a cafeteria.

There is also a Wadden Sea Visitor Center in Cuxhaven .
