The Wadden Sea Conservation Station is a non-profit nature conservation association that maintains numerous information centers on the North Frisian Islands , Halligen and mainland Schleswig-Holstein . The association was founded in 1962 by Gert Oetken and is the supervising association in the predominant part of the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park . In addition to some full-time and many voluntary employees, the local nature conservation work is carried out by volunteers ( Voluntary Ecological Year , Federal Voluntary Service ). In 1972, the Wadden Sea Protection Station was the first nationwide agency that was allowed to use community service in environmental protection.

In addition to scientific biomonitoring programs such as rearing bird counts, rinsing line mapping and mudflat mapping, public relations work is a declared goal of the association. In order to awaken and promote understanding and awareness of the need to protect the Wadden Sea ecosystem and the North Sea , the Wadden Sea Protection Station offers mudflat, salt marshes and ornithological tours almost all year round . In addition, there are evening hikes and lectures on various topics specific to the Wadden Sea on the program.

A special feature are the Wattenmeerhaus Seminar Houses listed in Westerhever and on the islets Hooge and Langeneß ( Langeneß Wadden Sea Station is) in which groups can book seminars with naturalist-round support.

The Wadden Sea Protection Station Foundation was established in March 2009 to promote the work of the protection station . As part of the Brent Goose Days on Hallig Hooge, the Wadden Sea Conservation Station annually honors people who work for the protection of the Brent geese and their habitat with the Golden Brent Goose Feather .
