Wauwerman's Islands

The Wauwermans Islands ( French Îles Wanwermans ) are a group of small, flat and snowy islands before the Danco Coast of Graham Lands on the Antarctic Peninsula . They are the northernmost group of islands in the Wilhelm Archipelago . The Bismarck Strait separates it from Anvers Island in the Palmer Archipelago to the north .

The German polar explorer Eduard Dallmann discovered it in 1874. However, it was only named during the Belgica expedition (1897–1899) under the direction of the Belgian polar explorer Adrien de Gerlache de Gomery . He named the islands after Henri Emmanuel Wauwermans (1825-1902), President of the Royal Belgian Geographic Society in Antwerp and supporter of the research trip .
