Wavestar

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wavestar was a British electronics duo from Sheffield . It consisted of John Dyson (born March 11, 1948 in Sheffield) and David Ward-Hunt, who died in 1999.

history

The band was formed around 1984. Their first album Mind Journey was already a great success in the electronics scene. In the following years, Wavestar became one of the most important British music groups in the style of electronic instrumental music through live appearances at the "UK Electronica" festival, which was very famous in the British electronics scene at the time, and through the release of the further successful album Zenith .

Wavestar's music is melodic synthesizer music with influences from electronic pioneers such as Tangerine Dream . Here John Dyson's usually melodic style and David Ward-Hunt's sequencer interludes harmoniously.

In 1989 the band broke up due to personal disagreements. From this time on, John Dyson made an equally successful solo career, starting with the first solo CD Evolution , released in 1989 . In the beginning he produced music on the record label "Surreal to Real" that he founded. In the meantime, both his solo CDs and the Wavestar CDs are being (re) released by the Dutch label Groove Unlimited by the musician and producer Ron Boots .

Dyson reached the peak of his solo success in the late 1990s. The CD Out of Time came in at number 7 in the “Best Album” category in the Vibrations elections, and Crystal Ashes , based on it, won the “Best Song 1997” category. Paul McCartney was among the audience at Dyson's live performance at the Dutch E-Live 1998 festival .

After a long career break, John Dyson returned to the stage in 2009. At the E-Day Festival in Oirschot, the Netherlands, he and his band were frenetically celebrated by around 250 visitors.
