Ron Boots (born October 13, 1962 in Eindhoven ) is a Dutch composer , musician and producer who works in the field of electronic music .

biography

Ron Boots, who now lives in Best , was already inspired by classical electronic music in the mid-1970s, above all by Klaus Schulze , but also by artists such as Tangerine Dream , Vangelis and Steve Roach . In 1984 he bought his first synthesizer , a Yamaha CS10 , and began composing pieces of music with it. Two years later he gave his first concert, and another year later he recorded his first album, Linear Waves , then still on an audio cassette . After further publications, some compositions were played on a Belgian radio station, which helped Boots to gain a certain prominence in the electronics scene. Then as now, Boots' pieces of music are mostly longer, melancholy instrumental pieces, stylistically between ambient and the classic Berlin school . This style, which was later imitated by several other musicians, is sometimes referred to as the Eindhoven School .

After several live performances at the Dutch electronics festival KLEMdag in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Boots and Bas Broekhuis , another musician from the Eindhoven School , founded a record label specializing in electronic music in 1990 , which was named Synteam . The first to appear there was Dreamscape , the first Boots album released on CD and one of his most successful productions to this day. Pieces from this CD also found their way into the radio program of the WDR broadcast Schwimmern and brought Boots first place in the election for the best newcomer of 1990 carried out by this broadcast. Ron Boots also achieved top placings several times in later vibration elections.

In 1991 Boots and Broekhuis dissolved the Synteam label to go their separate ways in music production. Boots then established CUE Records NL, a Dutch branch of the German distributor CUE Records, which was also recently founded . In addition to music production, this label also specialized in the distribution of electronic CDs from around the world in the Netherlands. At the same time Boots continued as a composer, released numerous albums and performed live, including at festivals in the Netherlands, Germany and France.

In 1997 Boots renamed the CUE Records NL label to Groove Unlimited . The label, which is now one of the largest distributors of electronic instrumental music, carries this name to this day. In addition to Ron Boots, it is also run by Kees Aerts , who also worked as a musician in collaboration with Boots at the end of the 1990s.
