biography

John Kerr began his musical studies at the age of seven, first learning the piano , then the church organ and later the double bass . At 18, however, he let his musical endeavors rest and studied graphic design at the Bath Academy of Arts ( Bath ). After graduating, he worked in this profession for various advertising agencies and publishers and taught at the Camberwell School of Arts ( London ) for five years .

He has lived in Amsterdam since October 1978 , where he continued to work as a graphic designer in the advertising industry until 1992. In 1980 he bought his first synthesizer and began to compose electronic music on the side. His first LP Cathedral was released in 1983 and was soon played on Dutch television and radio stations. Air Holland airline used the song I'm on my Way as music on their in- flight entertainment channel.

At the end of the eighties, Kerr got to know the possibilities of the new digital synthesizers. He met Ron Boots through KLEM, the “Foundation for Contact Lovers of Electronic Music” , who introduced him to the computer-based recording technology MIDI . Their CD Offshore Islands was released in September 1990 .

1992 marked a change in Kerr's life. In the vibration poll of the year, he won in three categories: Best Artist, Best Title ( The Seed ) and Best Album ( Norland ). Because of this success he decided to devote his further career to music. In the same year the album The Seed , which he produced, was released . The special thing about this CD was that Kerr had recorded a short melody, which he sent as a midi file to well-known artists of electronic music with the request that they create their own composition based on this melody. The Seed was up and released as a compilation with musicians like Paul Ward , Mark Dwane , Michael Garrison , Tim Story and Nik Tyndall .

No new John Kerr album was released for 15 years after Out of the Blue . According to his own statement, he was suffering from artistic burnout at the time .
