The Way Archipelago is an arched archipelago made up of more than 120 small islands and cliffs off the George V coast in the Australian Antarctic Territory . These are distributed from the area around Cape Gray on the east side of the entrance to Commonwealth Bay to the east side of the entrance to Watt Bay . The largest island in the archipelago is Stillwell Island with a diameter of 400 m .
Participants in the Australasian Antarctic Expedition (1911–1914), led by the Australian polar explorer Douglas Mawson, discovered the archipelago. Mawson named him after the Australian lawyer Samuel Way (1836-1916), Chancellor of the University of Adelaide from 1883 to 1916 and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of South Australia from 1876 until his death.
