Wayne Messam
Wayne M. Messam (* 7. June 1974 in South Bay , Florida ) is an American politician ( Democratic Party ) and businessman. He applied for his party's nomination for the 2020 presidential election .
life and career
Wayne Messam has lived in Miramar for 18 years . Wayne, a first generation American, was his parents' first child to be born in the United States. He was raised in South Bay, Florida by Jamaican parents. His father, Hubert Messam, worked in the Glades' sugar cane fields as a migrant worker for nearly two decades after immigrating to the United States with his family. As a Senior Class President at Glades Central High School, Wayne received a full athletic and academic scholarship to attend Florida State University . His successes include being a wide receiver member of the National Championship Football Team in 1993 under the legendary coach Bobby Bowden . Mayor Messam was elected Vice-President of the Student Union by his senior colleagues. One of his greatest highlights was when the FSU Black Alumni Association named him "Student of the Year" in 1996 for his exceptional achievements as a student athlete. He graduated from Florida State University with a bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems in 1997.
In 2015 he was elected Mayor of Miramar.
