Weberhaus (town house)
A weaver house is a small town house in which a weaver lived and worked with his family. This type of house emerged in the 17th century , when more and more fabrics were being manufactured locally for large textile manufacturers. The size and layout of this type of house was based on the size of the loom that stood in the weaving room in the front building. A typical weaver's house is twice as wide as a loom.
There are still some weavers 'houses, for example in the city of Krefeld, or very many in the Potsdam-Babelsberg district , the former city of Nowawes , where there is also a monument in the form of the weavers' quarter there.
A weaver's house from the linen weaving town of Laichingen ( Swabian Alb ) is located in the Beuren open-air museum . And in the city of Kaufbeuren , weaver houses in the street “Unter dem Berg” near the Crescentia monastery have also been preserved.
There is also a famous weaver's house in Augsburg on Moritzplatz . This is a building that the weavers' guild bought in 1389.
