The Weddell Glacier is a 3 km long glacier on the north coast of South Georgia . It flows north to Beaufoy Cove , a side bay of Royal Bay , which it reaches between Will Point and Cape Charlotte .
A German research group mapped the glacier during the First International Polar Year (1882–1883). It is named after the British navigator James Weddell (1787-1834), who visited South Georgia in 1823 as a seal hunter.
