The Weddell Point is a flat of tussock grass monitoring headland on the south coast of South Georgia . It marks the eastern boundary of the entrance to Schlieper Bay at the Icefjord .
The Scottish geologist David Ferguson (1857–1936) named the headland during his visit to South Georgia from 1911 to 1912 as Cape Weddell . This name has been changed to the current form in order to better correspond to the nature of the geographical object. It is named after the British navigator James Weddell (1787–1834), who paid a visit to South Georgia in 1823.
