Intercession table for Councilor Wedekin Klingenberg and his wife

Wedekin Klingenberg († 1350 in Lübeck ) was councilor of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.

Life

Wedekin von Klingenberg was the grandson of Lübeck councilor Wedekin von Reval. He was a member of the Lübeck Council from 1344 to 1350.

He was married to Hille (Hildegund), a daughter of Lübeck councilor Hinrich von Bochholt , and was related by marriage to Lübeck councilor Hermann Warendorp . He lived in his grandfather's house at Mengstrasse 12. The mayor of Lübeck, Goswin Klingenberg, was his son, and his grandson Johann Klingenberg also became mayor of the city.

The intercession table of the Klingenberg couple, created around 1350, was once in the Marienkirche in Lübeck and is now in the St. Anne's Museum . The panel contains a poem written on oak beams in German in which Saint Christopher intercedes for the couple who had the large wall painting of the saint placed on the central nave side of the second nave south pillar of the Marienkirche. This painting was obscured by the epitaph of Johann Ritter at the beginning of the 18th century .
