The Wedge Tomb of Aghamore ( Irish Achadh Mór ) is located on the eastern slope of the Truskmore Mountains, about 10.0 km northwest of Manorhamilton in County Leitrim in Ireland . It is one of several megalithic sites to be located here ( Court Tomb by Shesknan, Court and Wedge Tombs by Leean Mountain) and was only recently discovered. Wedge Tombs are double-walled, aisle-free, mostly undivided megalithic buildings from the late Neolithic and early Bronze Age .

The almost intact Wedge Tomb ( German  "Keilgrab" ), formerly also called wedge-shaped gallery grave, lies on uneven ground on the edge of a limestone plateau . It is equipped with the classic properties of the type (double facade, curbs and antechamber). Although it has only just emerged from the peat due to global warming, a chain around one of the capstones suggests that vandals recently attempted to destroy it.

description

The box-like gallery measures around 3.0 by 2.0 meters and is 1.5 meters high. It has some glitches at the east end. Only remnants of the approximately 9.0 meter long wedge-shaped cairn have been preserved. To the west of the grave are some massive sinkholes that may have played a role in the choice of the location.

200 m east on the opposite side of the limestone plateau, a 41.0 m long north-south oriented stone mound with four pits indicates that there were four chambers in a row. A couple of upright slabs can be seen at the north end. About 400 meters to the northwest, in Tawnamachugh, lies a destroyed Portal Tomb in the longest cairn of Portal Tombs in Ireland with about 65.0 m. In the south, in nearby Doonaveragh in County Sligo, there are a number of hut circles on the limestone plateau.
