The Wegger peak is approximately 305 m (according to British specifications around 350 m ) high mountain on King George Iceland in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It rises on the west bank of Mackellar Inlet , a side bay of Admiralty Bay .
Participants in the Fifth French Antarctic Expedition (1908–1910), led by polar explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot , gave a hill in the approximate position of this mountain the name Le Poing (French for The Faust ). Scientists from the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey identified Charcot's object as a collection of four neighboring peaks that resemble the knuckles of a clenched fist when viewed from the Chabrier Rock area . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee rejected Charcot's designation and gave the peaks individual names in 1960. The mountain described here is named after the Norwegian shipbuilding engineer Ole Wegger (1859-1936), from 1893 to 1932 director of the Norwegian shipyard Framnæs Mekaniske Værksted in Sandefjord . Another summit, the admirals peak is after the admirals , the first modern factory ship for whaling , which was built in this shipyard.
