Ole Wegger

Ole Abrahamsen Wegger (born December 3, 1859 in Nedre Vegger, Andebu , † January 25, 1936 in Sandefjord ) was a Norwegian shipbuilding engineer, shipyard director and Storting MP. For 39 years, from 1893 to 1932, he was director of the Norwegian shipyard Framnæs Mekaniske Værksted in Sandefjord.

Wegger was a son of the farmer and teacher Abraham Christensen Wegger (1825-1893) and his wife Karen Marie Olsdatter Lærskal (1832-1865). He was interested in technology and studied 1881-1882, after three years of specialist training, at the technical school Horten. In 1883 he traveled to the USA and worked there until 1884 in the Florence Iron Works in Florence (Wisconsin) , a branch of the Marinette Iron Works.

After returning to Norway in February 1885, he became head of the design office at Framnæs Skipverft of the entrepreneur Christen Christensen in Sandefjord, which became Framnæs mek Værksted in 1892 through mergers with other companies acquired by Christensen. Wegger became their manager or director in 1893 and remained so when the company was converted into a stock corporation in 1898. He did not retire until August 31, 1932.

In 1918 he was elected to the Norwegian Parliament ( Storting ) for the Høyre (Conservatives) in the constituency of Sandarherred in Vestfold Province , to which he belonged from 1919 to 1921.

For many years he was active in local politics in his home district of Sandarherred, was chairman of the shipbuilders' association and a member of the supervisory board or the management of a number of industrial companies, banks and shipping companies.

He was married twice. From his first marriage to Olava Andrine Eriksdatter b. Kleppanmoen (April 7, 1862 - December 20, 1889) had twin daughters:

  • Marie (born October 9, 1888)
  • Dorothea (born October 9, 1888)

After the death of his first wife, he married Olette Karense Martinsdatter nee. Lie (February 4, 1864 - January 10, 1935). There were six children from this marriage:

  • Olaf (born December 20, 1892, † after 1910)
  • Arnt (July 22, 1894 - July 12, 1895)
  • Arnt (born July 22, 1896 - † March 25, 1972)
  • Ellen (* 1897; † 1898)
  • Morten (April 9, 1900 - November 17, 1952)
  • Ellen (February 28, 1903 - January 26, 1988)
