The Raffelberg weir is a dam in the Ruhr near Mülheim an der Ruhr in the Speldorf district . It is about 7.8 km from the confluence with the Rhine . The Ruhr is dammed at a height of 6.85 m. In front of the weir are the Rhine-Ruhr port and the eastern end of the Ruhrschiffahrtskanals with the Ruhr lock Raffelberg and the hydropower plant Raffelberg . A return pumping station is available to pump water back into the upper area during dry periods.

Biological permeability

In order to ensure the biological permeability of the Ruhr, a fish pass was built from 2000 to 2001. On behalf of the waterways and shipping administration , a fish ladder was built on the canal in 2006 that met today's biological and ecological knowledge.
