action
In Detective-Inspector Bernie Reid's most recent case, George Stone is brutally murdered in a London apartment . Because Reid lives in a hotel because of his divorce and cannot sleep well at night, he is the first to arrive at the crime scene. On the way into the building he meets Anna, who later turns out to be the main suspect. Reid follows her to a dating party at which Anna denies ever seeing him. Bernie's professional self-image wavers because he feels drawn to Anna. She has traumatic memories of her daughter Emmy and her child, who died in a traffic accident because Anna did not take care of them. She lives in an illusory world in which she pretends to live with her daughter and grandchild. Flashbacks show Anna remembering the night George Stone died. Stone raped her orally and she knocked him down with a stone figure. When Reid takes her to the crime scene and wants to interrogate her, she slams the apartment door from the inside, locks the lock and climbs onto the parapet of the balcony. At the last second, Reid can stop her from fatally jumping into the depths .
