Weißenberge , sometimes also spelled White Mountains , is a district of the municipality of Wahrenholz in the Gifhorn district in Lower Saxony . The place name Weißenberge comes from an approximately 71-meter-high elevation on which white sandstone was visible.
The first mention of Weißenberg is known from 1619. Around 1950 Weißenberge consisted of only a brick factory and a few houses. In 2019, the municipal council of Wahrenholz decided on the uniform spelling of the place name Weißenberge , this year a memorial stone was also set up to mark the 400th anniversary of the locality .
The restaurant (Lieb, owner most recently Kühn), which used to be a grocery store, was closed around 1990. The Weissenberge Festival Committee organizes events such as the Easter bonfire and the setting up of the maypole . Bus routes operated by the Gifhorn district transport company run from Weißenberge to Hankensbüttel , Wahrenholz and Wesendorf . Evangelical Lutheran residents belong to the parish in Wahrenholz, Catholics belong to the Church of the Assumption of Mary in Wesendorf.
