Weißes Moor is a district of the municipality of Wahrenholz in the Gifhorn district in Lower Saxony .

history

The county Isenhagen acquired in 1923 by the Prussian forestry Treasury some 400 hectares of peat bog in the White Moor to colonize it. From 1927 to 1934, 16 settler positions were awarded. First, the lighting of the settlement was carried out using kerosene lamps , the children drove up from dogs pulled Loren to school in about eight kilometers away Wahrenholz.

In 1932 the Weißes Moor settlement was taken over by the municipality of Wahrenholz and in the same year a used hand-operated pressure syringe was acquired for the settlement and a syringe house was built. From 1933 on, the children were taught in a room on the top floor of a settler's farm until the school house was built in 1937. Up until the construction of the cemetery chapel, services and weddings took place there.

At first, Weißes Moor could only be reached by road from the north, the road to Stüde was only expanded after the Second World War . In 1946 the settlement was connected to the power grid , and in 1966 the cemetery chapel was built. The Elbe Lateral Canal has been running through Weißes Moor since the 1970s , which has berths for shipping here . It was not until 1985 that the settlement was connected to the central water supply.

The only restaurant in Weißes Moor that was set up in the former schoolhouse closed many years ago. There are no shopping opportunities for daily needs in town. From a postal point of view, Weißes Moor belongs to Schönewörde . A few kilometers south of Weißes Moor is the Bernsteinsee recreation area .
