Stüde is a district of the municipality of Sassenburg in the district of Gifhorn ( Lower Saxony ).

geography

The district covers about 1900 hectares and consists mainly of forest areas, including a lot of pine vegetation on sandy soils. The Elbe Lateral Canal passes close to the village . There is also the 100-hectare Bernsteinsee recreation area with a ten-hectare lake. A glider airfield run by the Aero-Club Wolfsburg e. V.

history

On March 1, 1974, Stüde was incorporated into the new municipality of Sassenburg.

Stüde gained national attention in 1975 when a forest and moor fire got out of control there on August 8th , soon afterwards it jumped over the Elbe Lateral Canal and developed into the largest of the most catastrophic forest fires that summer in terms of area.

politics

Stüde is represented by a five-member local council.

The local mayor is Andrè Bischoff (CDU).

Culture and sights

societies

The village's clubs include the Sassenburg-Stüde volunteer fire brigade , the Stüde marathon club, the Aero-Club Wolfsburg e. V., the FSG Eiche Stüde, the Schützenverein Stüde eV and the Doppelzentner Brothers.

Regular events

Since 1991, a marathon has been held with the start and finish in Stüde , which runs almost entirely on the top of the Elbe Lateral Canal. From 1994 to 2003, in addition to the "normal" marathon, the unusual form of a double marathon was offered: two marathons within 24 hours with an overall ranking. On the night of December 31, 1999 to January 1, 2000, the last marathon worldwide of 1999 and the first of the new year in Europe took place on the Stüder route under the title "Millennium Run". The race attracts participants from quite a long distance: the course records have been held since 1995 in the Andrzej Nowak marathon from Poland and in the Paul Houston double marathon from Brisbane / Australia .
