history

The first documentary mention was made in 1310 as "Grustendorpe" in a medieval deed of ownership by the von dem Knesebeck family . The next mention took place on June 21, 1322 as "Gruzendrope", which was sold with its four farms by purchase contract to the knight of Bartensleben .

In 1533 life is registered in Grußendorf, before that the place was probably empty due to diseases and bad harvests. The four courtyards were repopulated under the condition of fiefdoms. In the 16th century rye and buckwheat were grown on small arable land . Sheep farming was another line of business. The acquisitions served the self-sufficiency and the generation of the taxes to the feudal lords .

In 1692, Grußendorf, which had been a Brandenburg exclave until then, fell to the Duchy of Lüneburg-Celle through the Treaty of Wallstawe .

On March 1, 1974, Grußendorf was incorporated into the new municipality of Sassenburg.

In 1996 the Stephanus Chapel was rebuilt and enlarged. It was severely damaged in a fire in 2002. After a new building, the chapel was reopened in 2005. In 2006 the bell tower was fitted with a bell. The chapel belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Hanover , Catholic residents of Grußendorf belong to the parish of St. Altfrid (Gifhorn) .

coat of arms

Grussendorf coat of arms.jpg

The coat of arms shows three red azalea blossoms on a silver field and underneath a silver wooden fork on a green background.

The pitchfork and the green color represent the agricultural use in this area. The flowers symbolize the azalea cultivation carried out in Grußendorf as a separate branch of industry and the re-emergence of the village, after which it fell into desolation around 1400 and was repopulated in 1533. The colors red and white also stand for the affiliation of the place to the Mark Brandenburg (1309–1692).

The coat of arms was designed by Arnold Rabbow and unanimously adopted by the town council on July 12, 1989.

Economy and Infrastructure

Former school

Around 1725 the first school, the Row School, opened. Because there was no school building yet, lessons were held in courtyards. The first school building was built in 1853, between Grußendorf and Stüde . In 1911 more than 80 students from both parts of the town attended classes. When the Grußendorf-Stüde school association was dissolved, both places got their own school buildings. In 1979 the school was converted into a primary school, again for both districts. At the request of the local council, it was given the name "Hermann Löns School", named after Hermann Löns . In 1990 a school kindergarten was set up. In 1995 the school moved into a new building.

In the 2009/2010 school year, a total of 105 children were taught by nine teachers at the Hermann Löns School.

The day care center next to the school was opened in 1992 and is operated by the Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO). It offers space for 75 children and has been providing after-school care for primary school children since 2010.
