The white-throated bunting ( Zonotrichia albicollis ) is an American species of bird from the family of the New World chambers (Passerellidae).
features
With a length of 17 cm and a wingspan of 23 cm, the white-throated hamster weighs 26 g. The plumage is striped brown on the top and gray on the underside. Further characteristics are the white throat spot, parting with black and white or black-brown stripes, a black eye stripe, and a yellowish over-eye stripe. The bird can live up to nine years.
Occurrence
The white-throated sparrow breeds in Canada and the northeastern United States, and winters in the United States and northern Mexico. It lives in bushes, hedges and thickets, but also in parks and gardens.
behavior
This bunting looks for insects, seeds and berries on the ground in the thicket. After years of observation, a change in the number of final sounds in singing (2 instead of 3) was found in a population between BC and Central ON.
Reproduction
The white-throated sparrow has color variants with a white and a brown crown. During the mating season, the bird almost always looks for a partner of the other color. In a shell nest on the ground or at a low altitude, the female incubates four to six eggs alone for about two weeks. Later the male helps feed the nestlings with insects and spiders. After eight or nine days, the young birds are fully fledged. Sometimes the white-throated bunting mates with winter bunting ( Junco hyemalis )
