The Church of St. Cyril of Turau and all the holy patrons of the Belarusian people ( English Church of St. Cyril of Turau and All the Patron Saint of the Belarusian People , Belarusian Царква Сьвятога Кірылы Тураўскага і ўсіх сьвятых заступнікаў беларускага народу ) is a Belarusian Uniate Catholic Church in north London .

Built in 2017 by the architect Tszwai So for the London Belorussian Uniate Catholic Congregation , Saint Cyril's Church is the first wooden church in London to be built after the Great Fire of 1666 .

architecture

The architecture of the church was influenced by the Belarusian Greek Catholic wooden baroque architecture. A corner stone was brought from the former Marian monastery in Druja for the construction of the church . The Marian Monastery in Druja was an important center of Belarusian universities in the 1920s and 1930s.

The church has won several architectural prizes and awards and was nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture in 2018 .

Inner design

The church's iconostasis contains two icons painted in London's Westminster Cathedral in 1926 for a Greek Catholic week of prayer . Part of the ashes of Vera Rich , the English poet and translator from Belarusian and Ukrainian, has been buried in the church.
