Tszwai So

Tszwai So (born 1981 ) is a British architect, best known for his design for the award-winning Belarusian Saint Kyrill Church in London .

biography

Born in China , grew up in Hong Kong, UK. He studied architecture at the University of Hong Kong and received the Ho-Fook Architecture Prize in 2003. He later moved to the UK and studied at Wolfson College of the University of Cambridge . In 2011 So and a partner founded an architectural office based in London and Accra . Her clients include Birkbeck College , the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Westminster , the Holy See , Queen Mary University of London and others.

Great Synagogue of Slonim

In August 2018, Belarusian state television reported that Tszwai So was working with the Foundation for Jewish Heritage in Great Britain and the family of British television presenter Natasha Kaplinsky on a renovation project for the 17th century Great Synagogue of Slonim in Belarus. Slonim is the hometown of the Kaplinsky family.

So's drawings of the award-winning design of "An Echo in Time" won first prize in 2018 at the worldwide RIBA Journal International Drawing Competition. Awards

On October 31, 2016, Tszwai So was named a rising star in British architecture by the RIBA Journal. In 2017 he was named the best British architect under 40 by the American Institute of Architects . On October 26, 2017, So received the award for Best Young Church Architect of the Year from the National Churches Trust and the Duke of Gloucester . In November 2018 it was announced that the Belarusian Church of London had been nominated for the EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture - the Mies van der Rohe Prize.
