Weierstrass is an impact crater on the front of the moon west of Mare Smythii , northeast of the large crater Gilbert and immediately northwest of Van Vleck . The crater floor is flat and the crater rim is moderately eroded, with traces of major landslides on the inner rim.
The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1976 after the German mathematician Karl Weierstrass . Previously, the crater as was Gilbert N designated.
