history

Surname

In general, the word "hamlet" is derived from the Latin word "villare, villarium" ("country estate, farm").

Local history

The first settlement probably took place between the ninth and eleventh centuries. In a document written around 1250, a hamlet west of Göppingen is described; but it is not clear whether it is the community of Weiler ob der Fils or the Schorndorf district of Weiler. The first documented mention of Weiler ob der Fils comes from the year 1423. From a political point of view, the inhabitants of Weiler ob der Fils had been subjects of Württemberg since the late Middle Ages. The place came partly as an old property of the Adelberg Monastery, partly through the rule of Teck an Württemberg. In 1538 the places Sulpach, Roßwälden and Weiler are combined under the "Roßwälder Stab", which until 1938 belongs to the Oberamt Kirchheim. Since 1819, the hamlet of citizens has been striving to separate from the Roßwälder staff. Weiler leaves Roßwälder Stab in 1905 and becomes an independent municipality. From 1931 the white bear in the red shield (seal of the extinct noble family of the Reußensteiner) adorns the official seal of the community of Weiler. In 1938, Weiler was assigned to the Göppingen district. On January 1, 1975, it was incorporated into Ebersbach.

Weiler received its own classroom for the first time in 1718. Between 1963 and 1965 a new school building was built with a kindergarten, gymnastics hall and hard sports field. Between 1976 and 2000 there were extensive structural redesigns and expansions, especially in the area of sports facilities. In 1984 the grass sports field with long jump and shot put facility was inaugurated. In 2003 the community center was completed.

From 1907 to 1921 the water supply was secured by spring taps and the connection to the telephone network and the public power supply was established. Since 1970, the water supply has been through the newly built water tower between Weiler and Sulpach.

Population development

In the Thirty Years War (1618-1648) the population of Weilers was decimated to about a tenth. One reason for this was the emigration of many citizens to the nearby Kirchheim unter Teck.

politics

In 1975 a local constitution was passed, with which the office of the mayor and a local council were established. In addition, the false choice of suburbs was introduced and Weiler ob der Fils was guaranteed two seats in the Ebersbach an der Fils municipal council. In 2009, while maintaining the local constitution, the false choice of part of town was abolished.

religion

Before the Reformation , the service in Weiler was performed by a chaplain who was subordinate to the Sulpach pastor. After the Reformation introduced in Württemberg in 1534, Weiler was incorporated into Roßwälden. The Roßwald clergyman held services in Weiler every two weeks. The parish in Roßwälden was subordinate to the nuns of Kirchheim unter Teck. In 1603 the new Protestant church was built on the same site as the pilgrimage chapel consecrated to St. Blaise and is still in existence today.
