history

The Weilheimer Tagblatt was founded by the publisher Martin Warth and appeared for the first time on October 1, 1869. Martin Warth had moved from Regensburg to Weilheim, where he set up a print shop and founded a publishing house. Before that, there was a "Weilheimer Wochenblatt" that was printed in Munich since October 11, 1863. After that the owner of the newspaper changed several times. In 1913 the "Oberländer Volksblatt" was published as the second newspaper based in Weilheim. In the time of National Socialism , in 1936, it was turned into a newspaper, with other local newspapers such as the Murnauer Tagblatt as welland a Penzberger newspaper were merged here. On April 19, 1945, the printing plant on Münchner Strasse was hit and damaged by an Allied air raid.

On September 1, 1949, issues appeared again because well-known Weilheim citizens were no longer informed by the "Hochlandbote", founded in 1945. They pooled money and started the newspaper again. Since March 25, 1950, the newspaper has been a local edition of the Münchner Merkurs. In the period between 2000 and 2010 there was a local edition of the Süddeutsche Zeitung for practically the same area for a short time , but it was soon discontinued.
