The winery

The winery has been managed by Johannes Hirsch (born June 11, 1971) since 1995. The vineyard area, which is 100 percent planted with white grape varieties, is 30 hectares (as of 2014). The winery is one of the most renowned companies in the Kamptal and is known nationwide for its single-site wines of the Grüner Veltliner and Rheinriesling varieties . The best wines come from the Heiligenstein , Lamm , Gaisberg and Grub sites .

The vineyards are cultivated organically. In 2013 the changeover to gentle pruning according to Simonit & Sirch took place. The winery is a member of the organic association Respekt and the traditional wineries Austria .

Pioneer for twist locks in Austria

On 5 May 2003, the bottles of bottled from the positions Heiligenstein, Lamb and Gaisberg top qualities were first screw caps provided. Johannes Hirsch was the first Austrian producer to venture - despite the discussion in Austrian specialist circles - to equip the bottles of his top wines with screw caps (until then only bottles of basic quality had screw caps, those of top quality were always closed with corks) . Hirsch caused quite a stir with it. The then editor of the influential Austrian wine magazine Falstaff , Helmut Romé, even called for a purchase boycott. As it turned out, however, Hirsch was subsequently a role model for numerous Austrian producers. With his pioneering step, he had made a lasting mark on Austrian wine history.

In 2008, Johannes Hirsch was nominated Austrian of the year in the business category by the Austrian daily newspaper “Die Presse” for his pioneering screw cap . In 2011 he was named "Winemaker of the Year" by the Falstaff Verlag, which had fought his pioneering act in 2003.
