The Paul Achs winery in Gols is an Austrian winery in the Neusiedlersee wine-growing region in Burgenland .
history
Paul Achs graduated from the Eisenstadt School of Viticulture and then worked in a Californian winery. According to his own statements, this internship had a lasting impact on the winemaker's further career. Paul Achs radically changed the line of his parents' winery, which previously focused heavily on white and sweet wines, in the early 1990s; the best locations were now mainly planted with Blaufränkisch. In 1991 Paul Achs took over the management of the winery. The company has been certified as a biodynamic winery since 2006 .
The winery
The vineyard area is 26 hectares (as of 2015), 80 percent of which are planted with red grape varieties, mainly Blaufränkisch , Zweigelt and Pinot Noir . The most famous wines are the Cuvée Pannobile and the Blaufränkisch from the Ungerberg , Spiegel and Altenberg sites . Paul Achs is considered a top Blaufränkisch specialist; According to Vinaria , his Blaufränkisch from the Altenberg, Spiegelberg and Ungerberg sites are among the highest-ranking representatives of Austrian varieties.
The winery is a member of the Renowned Wineries Burgenland (RWB) and the Pannobile group . It is a multiple winner of the Falstaff Red Wine Prize.
