Location description

The wine church stands in the center of Jetzelsdorf and is embedded in the row of houses.

history

The parish Jetzelsdorf is a Josephinian parish foundation. It was detached from the Pfaffendorf parish in 1784 and has since been incorporated into the Göttweig monastery . After the parish was founded, the old parish church was built instead of a small chapel. When the old church became too small, the new parish church was built in 1975 and 1976 by Hans Hoffmann . After the completion and consecration of the new church, the old church was profaned in 1976. At first it was empty and left to decay. Since it, located on the main road, was seen as a traffic obstacle for a long time, it should have been torn down. With the construction of a bypass around Jetzelsdorf in the 1990s, the former church was renovated by the population. Since then it has been referred to as the “wine church” and used as a vinotheque and event location.
