The Weiss Amphitheater is a 3 km wide caldera in Marie Byrd Land in western Antarctica . In the Executive Committee Range it occupies the south-central part of Mount Sidley .
The United States Geological Survey mapped them on the basis of their own measurements and Trimetrogon aerial photographs of the United States Navy from 1958 to 1960. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named them in 1962 after Bernard D. Weiss (1921-2010), chief meteorologist on the Byrd Station in 1959, as well as descriptively due to its appearance, which is reminiscent of an amphitheater due to the no longer existing south wall .
