The Welfen-Gymnasium Schongau is a high school in Schongau in Upper Bavaria .
history
As early as 1939, District Administrator Ludwig Thoma wanted to found a six-class high school, but the outbreak of war prevented this. On July 13, 1959, the founding contract for an upper secondary school was concluded. In 1965 the expansion to a full high school with upper level was approved, and the main building was built in 1969. The Protestant primary school was set up in 1979 as an auxiliary building. Since 1994 it has had its current name after the Guelphs , who had a castle in neighboring Peiting . An additional extension followed in 1999, and the old building was extended in 2005. From 2001 to 2017 Wolfgang Gebler was the school principal. Bernhard O'Connor took over his position in the second half of the school year 16/17. In 2009 the 50th school anniversary was celebrated with two weeks of festivities. From 1968 to 1993 the Welfen-Gymnasium took part in the "Cooperative Comprehensive School" trial.
Self-image
The Welfen-Gymnasium sees itself as a place where you can learn together and discover your own skills. The cognitive examination of the learning content is just as important as the emotional, social and artistic aspects.
Branches of education
The grammar school has three branches of education: scientific-technological, linguistic and (since 2011, in cooperation with Herzogsägmühle ) social science. English is taught as the first foreign language and Latin or French as the second foreign language. For the linguistic branch with Latin as a second foreign language, French is added as a third language from the eighth grade onwards. As a foreign language that starts late, Spanish is offered from the 10th grade onwards.
activities
All 5th grades go to a school camp in Balderschwang for five days . In the 7th grade, the students also go to a ski camp for five days. In the 9th grade, three days of reflection take place in Seifriedsberg . In the middle and upper grades, students can take part in a student exchange to Scotland, the USA, France, Turkey or Nepal. In addition, voluntary opera and theater trips to Munich are organized at irregular intervals outside of school hours. There are also various additional offers available to the students (cooking courses, theater group, choir, optional Italian lessons).
