The wave of Bern is a passerelle over the tracks on the western edge of Bern main station (between sectors C and D). It takes its name from the six roofs that cross it and lead in the form of a half-wave from the platforms below to it and then back down on the other side. On the inside of the station, the urban Schanzenstrasse runs parallel to it and at about the same height over the tracks. The wave of Bern also serves as the entrance to the train station, as it is connected to this street at both ends.

The passerelle is 13.3 meters wide. It replaced the old passerelle on the opposite side of Schanzenstrasse, which, in contrast to the new passerelle, had no elevators or escalators .

The Bern wave was put into operation on December 12, 2004 when the timetable was changed as part of Bahn 2000 and was inaugurated on October 13, 2005 with a festival for the population. The structure cost 25 million Swiss francs and was built under the supervision of the Swiss Federal Railways in a construction period of 13 months according to the plans of Ursula Stücheli and Beat Mathys from the architecture office Smarch from Bern , the structural planning of Conzett, Bronzini, Gartmann AG from Chur and the workshop planning of Timber construction by Peter Gfeller from Roth Holzleimbau und Stahlbau AG from Burgdorf . The Swiss Federal Railways were awarded the Wakker Prize of the Swiss Homeland Security in 2005, among other things because of the wave of Bern .

extended platform, partially covered with a passenger bridge, which is connected to the rear passerelle, 2019

The former post station was next to the shaft. The property owner, Swiss Post , had this building demolished and a new building erected at the same location, which is known as Postparc West . It includes the small Welle7 shopping center with shops and numerous restaurants.

In autumn 2019, the penultimate platform from the south was provisionally extended to the west from the main part of the station, which is covered with a parking deck. During major renovation work in the station, it replaces two other entry and exit tracks. An 8 m wide passenger boarding bridge (similar to a passenger boarding bridge ) was installed above it until about the middle between the wave of Bern and its new end , in order to create sufficient access capacity. Two flights of stairs and a lift lead down to the platform. This access was connected to the wave passerelle in Bern. However, in order to protect the corrugated roof in question over the passerelle, the passenger bridge was bent when viewed from above and connected to the passerelle between the third and the penultimate corrugated roof.
