Coordinates: 32 ° 33 ′  S , 148 ° 57 ′  E Wellington was a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area was 4,113 km² and last had about 8,500 inhabitants. In 2016 it went up in the Western Plains Regional Council .

Wellington Council was in the North Western region of the state about 350 km northwest of the metropolis Sydney and 350 km north of the Australian capital Canberra . The area comprised 58 hamlets and towns, including Bodangora, Cundumbul, Dripstone, Elong Elong, Euchareena, Finger Post, Gollan, Maryvale, Mumbil, Muronbung, Neurea, Stuart Town, Twelve Mile, Walmer, Wellington and parts of Arthurville, Ballimore, Geurie and Yeoval. The council's administrative headquarters were in the city of Wellington in the center of the LGA, which now has around 4,500 residents.

Wellington Council has nine members elected by LGA residents. Wellington is not divided into districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
