Wels initiative against fascism

The Wels Initiative against Fascism , also known as Antifa Wels , is an independent initiative founded by Robert Eiter in 1984 to combat right-wing extremism , racism and anti-Semitism in the city of Wels in Upper Austria .

Fields of work

The organization primarily does educational and remembrance work.

  • Commemorative work: research, documentation and erection of memorials
  • Youth work: educational work in schools
  • Humanitarian work: improving the situation of asylum seekers in Austria

As a result of the Wels initiative against fascism, the city of Wels organized several meetings with displaced Jews , erected three memorials and named several streets after victims, including Anne Frank Street. The Elfriede Grünberg Prize has been awarded by the initiative since 2000 .
