Space amazement

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Space amazement is the project of the German psychedelic musicians Dave Schmidt and Andi Heinrich, who also determined the name.

Band history

On February 13, 1998, the two multi-instrumentalists David "Dave" Schmidt and Andreas "Andi" Heinrich and his wife at the time Silke "Silk" Heinrich ( bass and vocal passages) started their spherical music project Weltraumstaunen with a recording session in Bayreuth . Schmidt was a member of the Berlin bands Zone Six and Liquid Visions . The Heinrich couple played in the Bayreuth formation Growing Seeds . The intention was to enter into a musical long-distance relationship outside of their existing band structure, so to speak, that is, everyone should stay at their traditional place of work and the exchange of ideas and the final processing should take place via tape delivery. At first they only met for the "founding event", the musical improvisation part of which was immediately recorded. It is explicitly noted in the booklet that it was Friday the 13th and a full moon night . The fact that Schmidt took the place of Growing Seeds drummer in the summer of 1998 was not planned at the time, but the time they spent together in the same place did not last longer than a year until Growing Seeds dissolved . In addition to the almost 22-minute core piece Astonished… Like the Universe , which was created during the session , Schmidt and Heinrich each contributed two more or less finished - in relation to this - shorter tracks.

After the pre- tapes had met with great interest, the album Weltraumstaunen was released in the summer of 1999 both as a vinyl LP and in CD format. It is a “spacerock psychedelic album […] with dirty guitar riffs, driving drums and hissing synths […], ethereal vocals […], feedback effects […] and […] noises […]”. In the spring of 2002, the two project leaders set to work on the second album, called Weltraumwelt , which was also released in two sound carrier versions in 2004. It contains more pieces than the first, which also have a wider stylistic range.

Schmidt's tireless creative spirit continued to express itself afterwards, for example under the names Sula Bassana , Space Shuttle Pilots and Südstern 44 . Silk Heinrich is part of the latter band, who has appeared as Silke Fugmann or Ellipopelli since the separation from her husband. In 2006 Schmidt moved to Austria because of love , which didn't stop him from continuing old projects and starting new ones. Space amazement still exists, even if no new creative document has been presented since space world .
