B-Side Ourselves is an EP released in 1992 by the US hard rock band Skid Row . It contains five titles that are exclusively cover versions of songs by other artists.

background

The five tracks included were songs by bands that had influenced the Skid Row members' artistic careers. These included The Ramones , Kiss , Judas Priest , Rush and Jimi Hendrix . B-Sides Ourselves was originally intended to fill the gap between Slave to the Grind and the group's next studio album, but in the end it took Skid Row three years to complete and release the album Subhuman Race .

reception

Thomas Kupfer wrote for Rock Hard that you can stand for Skid Row however you want - on the tour with the LA Guns, “the guys around front man Sebastian Bach have invalidated the criticisms of all those who have united the quintet since the beginning of its career To attach teenage status ”. At that time the group was whirled through Germany's concert halls with "such a power" that it was "a real pleasure" and "not a few spoke of the best power metal band since Vicious Rumors ". The “live power mentioned at the beginning” was captured by Skid Row “even more convincingly” than on their album “Monkey Business” on vinyl. They exuded “an extreme joy in playing” and managed “old classics like 'Psychotherapy' (Romones), 'Little Wing' (Jimi Hendrix), 'C'mon And Love Me' (Kiss) and 'What You're Doing' (Rush) to sound abundantly contemporary ”. This disc would have been “additionally interesting” “through the Judas Priest standard 'Delivering The Gods', which Mr.Bach and Mr Halford sang live in a duet during a show in Phoenix / Arizono”.

Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote for Allmusic that B-Sides Ourselves was "not a bad way to get out of the spotlight." It was a collection of five cover versions that were "among the best music" that "Skid Row ever recorded" simply because it is so “rough and full of energy”. Skid Row set a "breakneck pace" and created "vicious rock and roll," which is more alive than on their two previous albums. The band managed to protect this force and take it into the production of their next studio album (Subhuman Race).
