The World Play Day is an international day of action . It is celebrated on May 28th every year .

World Play Day was launched as "World Play Day" in 1999 at the 8th Conference of the International Toy Library Association (ITLA) in Tokyo . In the years that followed, national events of various kinds were held on this day in numerous countries. In 2006, the German toy libraries took part for the first time with a joint campaign on World Game Day, which was proclaimed by the UN in 2000 for May 28th of each year and which is now also receiving support from UNESCO . It is the wish of the organizers to bring children and adults from different social classes closer to one another through play and to encourage them to enjoy playing.

World Game Day in Germany

In Germany and in German-speaking countries, the Deutsche Kinderhilfswerk eV has been coordinating the decentralized activities since 2008 as part of the “Alliance for the Right to Play”. The motto in 2016 was “Playing overcomes borders!” And wanted to draw attention to the fact that physical, social and cultural boundaries can be overcome by playing together outside on the street.
