The worldwide readings arose in connection with the anniversary of the political lie , which was first announced on March 20, 2006, on the occasion of the third anniversary of the invasion of the US-led troops into Iraq , by the Peter Weiss Foundation for Art and Politics. V., based in Berlin, was proclaimed in order to raise awareness of the content and forms of political communication. The anniversary of the Political Lies has always been celebrated with readings around the world (although not all readings take place on the anniversary itself), to which cultural institutions, theaters and interested people are invited. The readings address important political issues around the world, but also the fate of politically committed personalities such as Edward Snowden and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Liu Xiaobo . Because the lie is one of the instruments of political influence even at the beginning of the 21st century, it must be made clear that the forces that oppose them are not weakening.
