First mention and interpretation of the name

Wendisch-Borschütz was first mentioned in 1285 as Borswitz , and in 1286 as Borswicz Slauica ("Slawisch-Borswitz"). A settlement-historical connection between Wendisch-Borschütz and the 5 km distant Borschütz could not be proven so far.

One can assume, however, that the Sorbian residents of Borschütz moved to Wendisch-Borschütz.

Local history

In 1286, Margrave Heinrich von Meißen announced that at the request of his vassal Otto the Elder of Ileburg and his sons Botho and Otto, he had transferred the Wendish village of Borswitz to the Mühlberg monastery. The donation itself was made in 1285.

In 1922 the village of Wendisch-Borschütz was incorporated into Mühlberg / Elbe and is now part of Altenau.

Administrative affiliation

Wendisch-Borschütz belonged to the electoral , then to the royal Saxon office of Mühlberg until 1806 , and in 1816 became part of the Liebenwerda district . From 1952 the place belonged to the Bad Liebenwerda district , which then became part of the Elbe-Elster district in 1993 .
