Wengi , also Wängi or Wängibad, is a hamlet in the political municipality of Aeugst am Albis in the Affoltern district of the canton of Zurich in Switzerland .
Wengi is located on a hillside terrace south of Aeugst in the Jonental on the old cantonal road from Affoltern am Albis to Vollenweid .
Wängibad
The hamlet of Wengi is closely linked to its bath, which was first mentioned as Wängibad in 1412 and was able to maintain itself into the 20th century. The natural scientist Conrad Gessner mentioned the water at Aeugst around 1550 and praised the healing of ulcers.
In the 18th century, the spa grew up in competition from larger health resorts that it couldn't keep up with. The Wängibad experienced the heyday of the spa between 1850 and 1914. In the late 1930s, the buildings were extensively renovated and the bath also flourished again with the sale of Wängibad table water.
The tavern, which was demolished in 1960, had a centuries-old tavern right. A branch of the Spinner family ran the Wängibad for 13 generations from 1715 to 1931. Today the bathing tradition is continued with the Schönhalde sun baths.
