Weniamin Innokentjewitsch Sosin ( Russian Вениамин Иннокентьевич Созин , scientific transliteration Veniamin Innokent'evič Sozin ; * 1896 ; † 1956 in Leningrad ) was a Soviet chess player and an important chess theorist.

Sosin took part in the 3rd USSR Championship in 1924 , where he finished ninth and received the championship title. Later he took part in the fourth, sixth and seventh championships of the Soviet Union. Sosin lived first in Novgorod , later in Leningrad, where he celebrated some tournament successes in the 1930s: He had his best placement in Leningrad in 1935, when he took second place. Sosin's particular strength, however, was not in the tournament game, but in the analysis of the opening : He examined the Sosin attack named after him in the Sicilian Defense very deeply : 1. e2 – e4 c7 – c5 2. Ng1 – f3 Nb8 – c6 3. d2– d4 c5xd4 4. Nf3xd4 Ng8 – f6 5. Nb1 – c3 d7 – d6 6. Bf1 – c4 , which was further developed by Bobby Fischer in the 1950s .

For decades, Sosin was an editor in the theoretical section of the Soviet chess newspaper "Schachmatnyj Westnik", in which he published many of his studies. He also published two chess books, including "Combinations and Traps", which was also published in German and English translation.
