Werinhar OSB († October 30, 982 in Lucca ) was Abbot of Fulda .

He was born into a noble family and was a cousin of Ulrich von Augsburg . At an unknown point in time, he entered Fulda Abbey as a Benedictine and was ordained a priest. After Abbot Hatto II was elected Archbishop of Mainz, the monks elected him in 968 as his successor. On November 8, 969, Pope John XII confirmed him privileges. He enjoyed the favor of Emperor Otto II and received from him for the salvation of the soul of his father Schlotheim von Frankenhausen in Thuringia . On October 22nd, 973 Otto II confirmed an exchange of territory with Adalbert von Magdeburg . In 981 he accompanied the emperor on an Italian campaign. On May 18, 982 he received the right to the interest of the settlement Medenheim near Northeim for himself and the abbey in Taranto . Otto II is said to have offered him the successor to Heinrich I as Bishop of Augsburg on July 14, 982 , which he refused. The next day he took part in the Battle of Crotone in southern Italy, where he narrowly escaped death. He died on October 30, 982 on the way home in Lucca, Italy, and was buried in Borgo San Donniono near Parma . According to later traditions, Pope Benedict VII is said to have elevated him to cardinal priest of an unknown Roman church during his last visit to Italy in the year before his death .
