Werinhar (St. Gallen)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Werinhar was from 1083 to 1086 the abbot of the St. Gallen monastery . Nothing is known about life before and after his work in St. Gallen. Neither in the Necrologium of St. Gallen nor that of Reichenau can it be grasped.

Act

In the course of the investiture dispute , the counter-king Hermann von Salm replaced the St. Gallen counter-abbot Lutold , appointed by his predecessor Rudolf von Swabia , with the Reichenau monk Werinhar. As a result, the Reichenau abbot Ekkehart repeatedly tried to use Werinhar in St. Gallen. In fact, Werinhar was only at the head of the abbey for a short time, probably around 1086, when the abbot Ulrich von Eppenstein , appointed by King Henry IV. Took over the patriarchate of Aquileia . However, he was so harassed by Ulrich's followers in St. Gallen that he apparently resigned his office that same year.
