company holidays

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As closing time is called, in which the employer of a company sets uniform leave for all or part of the employees. In the case of factories , they are also known as factory holidays .

The company is usually shut down for a limited period during the company holidays. Company holidays usually last two or three weeks. Sometimes it is also about individual days, e.g. B. between Christmas and New Year, in particular to save electricity and heating costs and to reduce overtime credits and remaining vacation entitlements that would otherwise have to be accounted for at the end of the year.

The aim of the uniform vacation for all employees of a company is that production can be shut down completely. As a result, the remaining vacation time for employees in the year is so short that a production downtime due to vacation of important employees is excluded. In the automotive industry , they are used in the context of model updates to convert assembly line production or to carry out maintenance measures.

In Germany, according to the Federal Holiday Act, the employee's wishes are to be taken into account when determining the leave, unless urgent operational issues conflict with them. The time and duration of the company holidays are determined by the employer or the head of the company, whereby the works council , if any, has a right of co-determination. The same applies in the public service to the involvement of the staff council . When choosing the period of the company holidays, the concerns of the employees must be taken into account. However, individual workers have little opportunity to object. According to the judgment of the Federal Labor Court in 1981, it is considered appropriate if three fifths of the total vacation time is taken during company holidays.
