Werner Bleuler

Werner Bleuler (born April 4, 1886 in Wipkingen , † October 20, 1928 in Zurich ) was a Swiss economist .

Life

Bleuler came from an old Küsnacht family. He was the son of the mechanic Hans Jakob Bleuler and Maria Luisa Kaiser. After high school in Zurich, he studied economics at the University of Zurich. In 1908 he taught at the commercial school in Zurich. In 1911 Bleuler did his doctorate with Gottlieb Bachmann . In 1917 he married Elsa Christen.

Bleuler gained practical experience in the Federal Department of Economic Affairs (EVD), of which he was Secretary General from 1918 to 1920. In 1920 he was appointed full professor of economics and private economics at the University of Zurich, where he worked until his death. He gave his inaugural lecture on October 22, 1921 on the subject of “Currency Risks and Exports”. Bleuler's most important works deal with banking, stock exchange and currency problems, with the up-and-coming financial and stock exchange center of Zurich being his specialty.
