Werner Friedli (mathematician)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Werner Friedli (born September 26, 1893 in Mühledorf ; † September 14, 1936 in Bern ) was a Swiss mathematician .

After graduating from high school in Burgdorf, Friedli studied physics and mathematics at the University of Bern from 1912 , where he received his doctorate in 1916 under the insurance mathematician Christian Moser ( reserve and pension cash value as analytical functions ). While still a student, he became a technical assistant at the Federal Insurance Office. From 1924 he was the technical director of the Swiss Pension Fund and was entrusted with the preparation of the introduction of old-age and survivors' insurance in Switzerland, which was decided in 1925 (but rejected again in a referendum in 1931) . At the same time he completed his habilitation at the University of Bern and became an associate professor, which is why he turned down an offer for a managerial position at the International Labor Office in Geneva. From 1931 to 1936 he was a full professor for insurance studies at the University of Bern.

Friedli was married and had four children. Parts of his estate are administered by the State Archives of the Canton of Bern .
