Werner Jüptner

Werner Jüptner (born December 9, 1941 ) is a German laser physicist and was a professor at the University of Bremen . In 1977 he was a co-founder of the Bremen Institute for Applied Beam Technology .

Live and act

In 1964 he began studying physics at the Technical University of Hanover . Already in his diploma thesis he dealt with the emission behavior of lasers . After graduating, he worked as a research assistant at the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Materials Research in Bremen. In 1975 he became a Dr.-Ing. With the work Investigations into the penetration behavior of an electron beam taking into account the beam geometry . PhD. In 1978 he founded the Bremen Institute for Applied Beam Technology with Gerd Sepold , which he headed together with Sepold as head of the institute until 2006. In 1989 the University of Bremen appointed him professor for technical laser applications and metrology in the physics / electrical engineering department. In the same year he was an adjunct professor at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute in the USA. At the beginning of 2007 he retired.

His research areas are coherent optical metrology, holographic interferometry, physical principles of laser technology and the principles of laser material processing.

In 2002 he received the Dennis Gabor Award from the International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE).

Jüptner was a founding member of the Bremen-North Economic Council, founded in 1988.
