Werner Lippoldt

Werner Lippoldt (born February 16, 1944 in Ostrau , Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia ) is a former German sports shooter . In 1972 he won the Olympic bronze medal with the small-bore rifle .

Lippoldt won silver behind the American Gary Anderson in the standing competition at the 1966 World Cup with the small-bore rifle . In the team competition he won the world championship title together with Günter Lange, Dieter Munzert and Hartmut Sommer. The four GDR shooters won the bronze medal in the team classification of the three-position fight.

In his only Olympic start in 1972 in Munich , Lippoldt entered three competitions. In the prone position, he took twelfth place with the small bore rifle and ninth place with the free rifle. In the small- bore three-position battle, Lippoldt achieved the bronze medal behind two Americans.

The multiple GDR champion started for the GST Leipzig sports shooting club. After his career, the graduate physicist moved to Berlin to join the GST central board . After the fall of the Berlin Wall , Lippoldt's research center was wound up and he then worked as a bicycle courier.
