Werner Müller (local history researcher)

Werner Müller (born March 2, 1924 in Frauenstein ; † April 24, 1999 ) was a German homeland researcher who dealt in particular with the life and work of Gottfried Silbermann and headed the Gottfried Silbermann Museum in Frauenstein in the Ore Mountains .

Life

In the mid-1950s, Werner Müller began building a museum in the castle there in the town of Frauenstein in the Eastern Ore Mountains. This also included intensive occupation with the organ builder Gottfried Silbermann, who was born in neighboring Kleinbobritzsch and grew up in Frauenstein. Over the course of time, Werner Müller compiled all the sources available to him about Silbermann and evaluated them in numerous publications. In this way he became one of the best experts in the life and work of one of Frauenstein's most famous sons. In 1969 he presented the monograph On the Traces of Gottfried Silbermann in a summarized form , which appeared in seven editions by 1987.

In 1982 the documentation Gottfried Silbermann - Personality and Work, compiled by Werner Müller, was published .

His brochure about the museum in Frauenstein with the title Frauenstein, Burg und Stadt, Heimat des Organ Builder Gottfried Silbermann appeared in ten editions.

In 1983 the museum in Frauenstein, which he directed, was reopened as the Gottfried Silbermann Museum after a complex reorganization and design, in which the Leipzig Musical Instrument Museum was also involved .

In the year of his death, 1999, the last publication from his pen appeared under the title Gottfried Silbermann 1683–1753 - Contributions to the Life and Work of the Saxon Organ Builder . It contains the latest research results on Silbermann at the time.
